The story of the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7 and Matthew 15 was one of the first that resonated with me as I began my journey with Christ. You see, at the time, Gentiles were considered as “outsiders” not part of the “chosen” generation as the Jews were. This was very much how I had felt, unworthy of the love and grace that Jesus offers us all as His children.
Pastor Vernon Jacob presented this story this morning from a different context, but I felt that I ought to share my perspective on it as well, for those that may feel the same as I once did, so that I can assure them that He really does love us, just as we are, and His Grace and Love is extended to all who would accept Him as their Lord and Saviour. Not only do we receive Healing, but the gift of Eternal life ![]()
Okay back to this morning’s Communion message:
Healing – The Children’s Bread
The enemy attacks us at a cellular level, which is why we need to understand that healing is the children’s bread.
Matthew 15:22-29
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said,I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said,It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her,O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
- The bread speaks of healing and God’s children have the right to eat of the bread of healing.
-
Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 - Inside of the slice of bread is our healing.
- Atmospheres and Environments. The man at the pool of Bethesda. John 5:1-8
- Don’t give up hope. Fight the fight of Faith.
- A place will not heal you, we don’t need a man, we need to look to God. What we need is a decree. Jesus said: “Rise, take up your bed and walk” and immediately he was made well. We need a declaration. Someone who will speak life over you.
You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you. Job 22:28- Bethesda was a place of healing yet he was sick for 38 years. It’s frustrating to be in a place of healing and yet remain sick.
He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Psalm 107:20 - The devil can also release a word that can cause you to become sick.
- The fear of covid can dominate. Be careful that your spirit is not dominated by sickness.
- Change your environment. Good smells, fresh air, sunshine. In the physical. In the spirit, bring the fragrance of heaven into your home.
- Open your windows and let the breath of heaven come in.
- Healthy bodies is God’s priority. Your greatest blessing after salvation is good health.
The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22- No sorrow means good health. You cannot enjoy any blessing outside of a healthy body.
- This is why, during Jesus’s ministry, He went around healing. (See list of healing miracles in comments) God is a healing God.
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, βTake, eat; this is my body.β And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, βDrink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.- His body was never a sick body.
- The body, represented by bread, is for your HEALING. The blood, represented by the cup is for your FORGIVENESS.
- Many are dealing with problems and don’t feel forgiven. Therefore we take the blood.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1- Communion is not a ritual to be observed but a blessing to receive.
- Three Bodies…1. The PHYSICAL body that went to the cross.2. The MEMORIAL body eaten at Communion.3. The MYSTICAL body is the Body of Christ (The Church)
- The Church (Mystical body) eats the Bread (The Memorial body) in remembrance of what the Physical body accomplished on the cross. What did the Physical body accomplish?
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24- The Physical body accomplished healing on the cross.
- There is a stripe relevant for our healing.
- Communion is the meal that heals. God has ordained Communion as a vehicle for healing and health in your body.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42- The early church believed that Communion was the way that God healed them.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4- God wants us to live long. He wants us to be healthy so that we may discharge His administration on the earth. He wants us to be ambassadors.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalm 91:16 - We need to hold on to this promise.
- What you know will attract what you need. You need healing, healing is His children’s bread. You need to discern correctly, His body heals you.
- During isolation, extend an invitation to heaven. Bring God into you through Communion.
Twas Grace that brought us through, will be Grace that will see us to ![]()
